Confirmation
On November 23, 2025, St. Paul’s had 4 Confirmands complete their Affirmation of Faith process
At St. Paul’s, Confirmation is a multi-year learning process in which those seeking to be confirmed in their trinitarian faith learn about the basic tenants of the faith including understanding the Bible (God’s Words speaking in the Old Testament and the New Testament), the Lord’s Prayer, the Creeds, the Ten Commandments, the Greatest Commandment, Service Life, Worship Life and Sacramental Life (living out baptism, communion, confession and forgiveness).
In January of 2026 a new multi-year Confirmation class will join in as the previous Jr. Class shifts to being Senior.
The time is right to join the Confirmation program (on the way to Affirming Faith) when the confirmand is eager to learn and grow. Like Baptism, achieving the growth for the ritual milestone of Confirmation is neither age-related nor age-restricted. Lifelong faith-based learning is to be seen on a continuum with markable moments along life’s way typically from cradle roll to final commendation at the end of life. Sunday School learning, and worship attendance for younger children creates a key but not required foundation upon which a successful confirmation program is built.
Confirmation Assignment 1 - January 2026: Let’s get you your new Bible and start you on your Confirmation Journey! Assignment 1: Find someone who has a faith life that you admire and find out what their favourite Bible Verse is. If they are open, ask them why it is their favourite verse. You can Google Pr. Karen’s if you need a hint. Pr. Karens Bible Verse gives shape to her whole life. This task should be completed before the end of February.
Confirmation Assignment 2 early March 2026 - let’s talk together about what is in our Bibles, let’s look up some passages together beginning with the one’s people told you about in January or February. You may ask one of last year’s Sr. Confirmands what Bible Verse they chose and why. Maybe they want to join us when we gather in March.
Confirmation Assignment 3 let’s meet online before Holy Week and learn about the life of Jesus. Did you know Jesus helped people, and healed people. Jesus changed lives. He accomplished a lot before his 33rd birthday that we should know about!
Confirmands and their families are invited to Holy Week! In 2026, Palm/Passion Sunday is March 29. While today this is a somber day, it used to be Confirmation Sunday in Lutheran Churches so people could be “examined” in time to have Communion on Easter Sunday. This Year Maundy (Commandment) Thursday is April 2. This is the night we refer to in Communion when we say “In the night in which he was betrayed, Our Lord Jesus took bread…. On Maundy Thursday Jesus gifted us with the Commandment of Love. Good Friday we journey to the cross on April 3. Are you a Confirmand ready to help carry the cross or say some of our prayers? Easter Sunday, Resurrection Sunday on the “third day” is Sunday April 4 and we celebrate together that the tomb is empty and we have been given a great gift of grace through faith by God’s Love in Jesus alighted by the Holy Spirit.
Assignment 4 is about Lutheran Social Ethics. How do we live by grace in the world. What does God’s love call us to do and to be? In April we will complete our 4th Sunday with the Friends of Creation for CLWR and the Confirmands will join in on the conversation about what St. Paul’s will do together to be Friends of Creation in our own Neighbourhood.
Between May and October, each Confirmand will have an opportunity for one on one learning with Pr. Karen and other rostered and lay leaders. When the Confirmands are in church, these are moments to live into the worship life that unites us all by learning to acolyte, serve communion, prepare the altar, say Scripture Readings, offer prayers, request and lead hymns, help in Fellowship after church. Each Confirmand chooses their faith adventure in the months of the summer of 2026.
