Sunday School

A One Room Sunday School

St. Paul’s takes a “One Room Sunday School” approach to Sunday School, meaning, teachers and learners gather and then the lesson plan prepped for the day is adapted to meet the learning needs of those students who are present. Lessons are chosen twice per year to coincide with what the children and families are experience during Sanctuary worship. Sunday School age is typically for ages 2 through Grade 6. Children join in for worship until they have communed at about 10:45. After Sunday School, students join their parents for fellowship time in the Fellowship Hall. Refreshments and a snack are offered each Sunday after worship.

Pr. Karen makes children’s bulletins available online and in-person that tie in to the lectionary cycle (Scripture Readings) and the Church Year season. For many weeks of the year the children have Learning Time with Pr. Karen at the beginning of the worship service. There is no Learning Time during Advent for example, as this is the season for Pageant rehearsal. Sunday School students and teachers typically stay in worship until after Communion.

Every Sunday School Teacher at St. Paul’s has an up to date Police and Vulnerable Sector Check. Confirmands and Post-Confirmation Youth, as well as parent-helpers, are often enlisted for support with occasions such as the Sunday School Pageant.
